Caramelized Onion + Bacon Flatbread
This quick dish is awesome for an appetizer or a main course, and can be customized in endless ways to suit your individual tastes. For this recipe, we went with caramelized onion and bacon at the hubby's request - but we've also made it with ham and cheese which was just as delicious!
If you give this one your own unique spin, please share your toppings of choice with me! I'd love to see what you're making.
Enjoy!

INGREDIENTS
One roll of refrigerated crescent roll dough
2 tbs olive oil
1 egg
2 cups mozzarella cheese
1/2 cup shredded parmesan cheese
1/4 c grated parm
1/3 of a red onion, julienned
4 large strips of bacon, cooked
2 tbs Dried or fresh basil
Sprinkle of oregano
Salt and pepper to taste
DIRECTIONS
Preheat oven to temperature on crescent roll dough container
Crack your egg into a small dish, set aside
Caramelize your onion in a hot sauté pan with olive oil, set aside
Unroll crescent roll dough onto an ungreased insulated baking sheet, and use wet finger tips to close the perforated seams so the dough is a solid canvas
Use your hands to gently press and stretch out the dough to be a thin rectangle across your baking sheet
Use a basting brush to coat the dough in a light egg wash
Sprinkle sea salt or garlic salt over the dough and then cook for 10 minutes at the package recommended temp
Once the crust is golden brown, remove from oven
Cover the crust with a thin coating of olive oil, and then add your cheeses reserving the 1/4 c of grated parm
Sprinkle with basil, oregano, salt and pepper
Add your bacon, making sure to evenly distribute across the flatbread
Add the caramelized onion
Sprinkle remaining parmesan cheese over the top and bake for 12 - 15 minutes or until the cheese is completely melted
