TINY Kitchen Sweet Cinnamon Twists with Cream Cheese Frosting

Hello, hello! It's the weekend, and you know what that means: it's time for my favorite meal of all: BRUNCH.

No, not breakfast - that thing we cram in before running out the door during the week - but brunch. Brunch isn't a meal, brunch is an occasion. And I love it. I love going out to brunch, having friends and family over for brunch, and being invited over to someone else's place for brunch. It's a beautiful way to slow down, enjoy a meal with great company, and start the day (or afternoon, as the case may be) out right. The mimosa's don't hurt either.

So, to usher us into a beautiful spring weekend, here's a simple and delicious new "twist" on your weekend brunch menu - sweet cinnamon twists with to-die-for cream cheese frosting. I guarantee you'll be invited back if you bring these to your next brunch date. Enjoy!

INGREDIENTS

Twists

1 Roll of Pillsbury crescent roll dough (original)

½ stick butter, melted

½ cup granulated sugar

cinnamon

Frosting

2 cups powdered sugar

4 oz cream cheese, softened

½ stick butter, softened

2 tsp. vanilla

DIRECTIONS

  • Preheat oven to 375 degrees

  • Spray an insulated cookie sheet with coconut oil or cooking spray to prevent sticking

  • Lightly flour a flat work surface such as butcher block, large cutting board, or your countertop

  • Open the can of crescent roll dough and carefully unroll the dough flat onto your work surface, being careful to not let the dough separate at the perforations. It should lay out as one solid sheet

  • With your fingers, press the perforated areas together to band the dough together

  • Using a pastry brush, butter the dough on the side facing up

  • Using your hands, sprinkle the buttered dough with the sugar, evenly coating every inch of the dough

  • Sprinkle a generous portion of cinnamon over the sugar topping

  • Next, take a pizza cutter and slice the dough into strips (the short way)

  • Very carefully pick each strip up and twist the dough – there should be a perforation right in the middle, so your strip will break into two twists, each about 4 inches long

  • Please each twist on your baking sheet

  • Once all the twists are laid out on the baking sheet, sprinkle once more with a light dusting of cinnamon

  • Place in oven and cook for 10-12 minutes or until golden brown

  • While the twists are in the oven, it’s time to make the frosting!

  • In a medium mixing bowl, combine the butter and cream cheese and beat with a whisk until smooth

  • Add in the powdered sugar and combine until sugar is absorbed

  • Stir in vanilla

  • When your twists are done cooking, place on a cooling rack

  • While the twists are still warm, but not hot, use a butter knife to spread a thin layer of the vanilla cream cheese frosting over the top of each

  • Place remaining frosting in a small serving bowl and serve with twists for dipping
